Principle of Operation of Compensating NTC Thermistors

NTC thermistors refer to thermistors with a negative temperature coefficient, which means their resistance decreases as temperature rises. They are primarily made from metal oxides such as manganese, cobalt, nickel, iron, copper, and aluminum, manufactured using ceramic processes.

In various AC and DC circuits, most components have positive temperature coefficient characteristics, such as coils, LCD displays, transistors, quartz oscillators, and others. When precision circuits or temperature-sensitive components are affected by temperature, they may experience zero temperature drift or sensitivity drift with temperature, leading to phenomena such as signal distortion, speaker sound deviation, quartz oscillator frequency fluctuations, and unstable performance. To maintain stable resistance values and achieve good operating conditions over a wide temperature range, one or more NTC thermistors are selected and used in conjunction. The negative temperature characteristics of NTC thermistors can compensate for the effects of temperature on component characteristics, serving as temperature compensation, enabling the circuit to operate reliably within a wide temperature range.

The diagram below illustrates the temperature compensation principle and application circuit of compensating NTC thermistors.

DTTTEK is a company specializing in the research and production of NTC thermistors within the industry. The compensating NTC thermistors they manufacture are characterized by high reliability, good stability, excellent interchangeability, and consistency. These products have passed safety certifications such as UL, CUL, CQC, and TUV.

Using compensating NTC thermistors can simplify the complexity of temperature compensation circuit design, reduce circuit costs, and ensure excellent temperature adaptability for components.
